Modding & Save Game Viewers

As most people who play the Dragon Age series on PC know, we have a large and very intelligent modding community. Below are some resources for those who would like to use mods. Mods are usually only available on PC, although some Xbox save file viewing & editing has been able to be done for the first 2 games.
All projects on the old Bioware Social Network (BSN)
Dragon Age: Origins Mod on Nexus
Save game editing
My personal all-time favorite mod for Origins is the Skip the Fade mod. After the first 4 play-throughs of the game, I'd had enough of that fade portion, and it was a lifesaver!
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age 2 is a bit more difficult to create mods for, and there were no tools released to modders for it. There are still some things that are do-able. See the Dragon Age 2 Nexus for available mods and texture changes.
You can also use Gibbed Save Editor to create a Dragon Age: Origins save for import into Dragon Age 2.

Update: I'm hearing a terrible rumor that Bioware purposely broke the ability to mod this game in Patch 6. Is this true? Please leave a comment below. Official word is that Bioware did not break modding on purpose, but that the breakage appears to be a by-product of the fact that they do not factor the existence of mods into their QA testing. See the first post on this page for how to back up to Patch 5 to keep using your mods.
So far there have been a few retextures and such for the game, along with tweaks for the PC UI and the tactical camera, and the ability to get rid of the horrible pajamas while the Inquisitor is in Skyhold. I'm sure there is more to follow as people figure out the workings of the new save structure and how the game is built in Frostbite.
January 26, 2015: Ehamloptiran has started a project for a patch to fix bugs in the game.
Dragon Age: Inquisition Community Patch - You will need the DAI Mod Manager, linked below.
Dragon Age: Inquisition Modding Tools How to download and use the toolset DAI Tools on the Nexus:

Want to change that pajamas you are forced to use on Skyhold ? Give hair to Solas ? Make Leliana red headead again ? Here we discuss what we know so far and we even have a tool to view the game assets files (CAS) and the game save files (DAS), courtesy of Warranty Voider (ME3 modding tools) and Ehamloptiran (Skyrim, Bioshock modding tools), wogoodes and others who did many mods for games.
The goal is to make a Creation Kit like Skyrim's to allow modders to change game assests. Will we get there ? Stay tuned.

Xelrach on Nexusmods built a Dragon Age: Origins save viewer.

DASaveReader is a tool that will read your Origins save file and print out your decisions so they can easily be entered into Keep. This projects supports all quests in Origins and in the DLCs.

This will allow you to open your DA:O save to see what choices you made, so you can go through the Dragon Age Keep and apply your choices without having to try to recall them. Sometimes it's hard to remember what you did all those years ago, and if you have multiple play-throughs it makes it even more difficult. So give his save viewer a shot before tearing your hair out in frustration!
Then we have another save reader that can work on both Origins and Dragon Age 2, created by Jacobus Meulen and hosted on the StinStin site. It is not 100% complete for Dragon Age 2 and does have a few bugs, so please read the information on the page. You can give it a shot here. Also see this post on the Bioware forums that contains a list of the decisions not handled by this tool. You can read more about the tool and the reasons behind it on his about page.
Don't forget that you can also use the Dragon Age Keep Companion as you go through the Keep to remind you of quest details.
I have not finished moving the site but am opening up comments due to Patch 6 rumors mod breakage.

Playing any game on PC gives you more flexibility. You can play around with simple settings like graphics and sometimes modify game values and behavior by modifying core files and how the game logic flows. Even though you can still deploy Dragon Age 2 cheats on Xbox or PS4, it is the Dragon Age 2 PC console commands and cheats that bring the game to life.

How to Enable the Dragon Age 2 Console (PC Only)

There are four ways you can use to activate the console in your Dragon Age 2 game. Follow the one you find to be the simplest.

1. Creating a Shortcut to DragonAge2.exe (Most Convenient, Recommended)

Find your ‘DragonAge2.exe’ in your installation folder (normally C;Program Files (x86)Dragon Age IIbin_ship) and make a shortcut of it on your desktop, task bar or wherever you please. You create a shortcut by right-clicking and selecting ‘create shortcut’ from the popup menu.

Right click the shortcut you just created and choose properties. In the properties tab, go to the ‘Target tab and add -enabledeveloperconsole

Once you’re done, the name should resemble this: (ensure that there is a single space between the last quotation mark and the hyphen)

“C:Program FilesDragon Age IIbin_shipDragonAge2.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

2. Enabling it Through Steam

Launch your steam client and find the Dragon Age 2 game in your Steam library. Right click the game and select properties. The properties popup will give you the option to ‘Set Launch Options.’ Add this text (-enabledeveloperconsole) without the brackets and click OK. To use the console, you must launch the game through Steam

3. Enabling the Console Through Origin

Dragon Age 2 Save Game Editor

Crush crush 18%2b patch download. Find your Dragon Age II game in your Origin ‘My Games menu. Right click on the game and choose ‘Game Properties.’ Look for the field titled ‘Command Line Arguments’ and insert the text (-enabledeveloperconsole)By Editing Your Game File

4. By Editing Your Game File

The last option is to edit the actual game files. This is riskier as you will be tampering with direct game files but you will be able to launch the game from its normal shortcut. You must have installed the game from a retail disc to try this option since Origin download games don’t create the file you should be editing.

The file to look for in your programs/game folder is: …Dragon Age IIdataDragonAge2Launcher.xml

Editor

Backup the file first before beginning the following edit.

Find the line: <condition name=”FirstRunCheck” type=”FileExist” file=”${USERDATA_DIR}SystemInformation.xml”>

Below that line, you will find: <true action=”execute” file=”${BINARIES_DIR}DragonAge2.exe” path=”${BINARIES_DIR}” autoquit=”true” />

Append: arguments=”-enabledeveloperconsole” to this line(inside the />) The final product should be:

<true action=”execute” file=”${BINARIES_DIR}DragonAge2.exe” path=”${BINARIES_DIR}” autoquit=”true” arguments=”-enabledeveloperconsole” />

Enabling Dragon Age 2 Cheat Console on Mac

If you are playing the game on Mac, navigate to Library/Application Support/Dragon Age II/config

Open the file with a text editor and add the following line to the very end of the text file

[AppDefaultsDragonAge2.exetransgaming] “cmdlineadd” = “-enabledeveloperconsole”

Dragon Age 2 Save Files

Launching the Dragon Age 2 Console

Before trying to launch the console, head over to your ‘My Documents’ folder or where you game saves progress files and find the file ‘BioWareDragon Age IISettingsKeyBindings.ini’

Open the file with a text editor and find the line that says ‘OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X’

Replace the ’X’ in the Button_X section with a button that is not involved in game control to bind it to console activation. You could use F7 or any other Function key to avoid any confusion.

Launch your game and press the designated launch key. Note that the console will always be invisible. You can confirm by pressing bound keys, for instance a key to move your character. The character won’t respond if the console is active.

To use a code (console codes listed below) just begin typing (be keep not to typo) and press ‘enter’ on the keyboard to activate the console code.
